Xocolat – Luxury chocolates in Linz, Austria | Indie Travel Reviews
We couldn’t help ourselves when a friend pointed out the boutique chocolate shop Xocolat in Linz, but I was pleasantly surprised by both the depth and quality of their range, as well as the rich custom-made truffles and sweets.
Milka is the chocolate of Austria: it’s purple wrapping and dairy-milk flavour is well-known as a ‘premier’ brand of mass-produced chocolates. So it’s kind of impossible to avoid when you’re in the country of origin.
But there was no Milka to be seen in Xocolat — instead there were dozens of products from top-range and small-production chocolatiers, sourced from around the world. We went with a wide variety of options: white chocolate with pistachios, a finely-balanced chocolate+chilli+whiskey liquor mix, and an extreme bar of 99% cacao. All worth the price for an intense flavour experience.
Apart from the off-the-shelf options, a selection of display cases by the till offered a selection of bonbons, fondant-filled delights and chocolate truffles. We plumped for a cognac truffle, a white chocolate and cactus-
pear option, and a tightly-packed ball of dark chocolate and chilli. The house-produced chocolates were rich and cream; just as good as the top-label brands.
Worth going out of your way for? I don’t know. But for a touch of luxury at a fair price, you can’t go past this fragrant chocolate shop in the Linz old town.
