When in Budapest . . . stay at Butterfly Home

If you find yourself in Budapest, searching for a place to stay, quit searching. This is the place you want: Butterfly Home (1053 Budapest, Képíró utca 3). This inn has everything you could want, with a comfortable place to lay your head at night, relax in the day, grab a bite to eat in the morning, and placed in a great area to base your explorations around town. And on top of all that, the proprietors, Agni and Tonci, are the perfect hosts for your stay. We paid just over US$100 per night for our stay and could have easily expected to pay much more than this for our experience.

My wife and I spent five days/four nights in Budapest last November. We had a wonderful trip and experienced so many of the incredible things Budapest has to offer. Much of this was the direct result of Agni and Tonci giving great advice and booking plans for us. They personally helped us get tickets to see the inside of the spectacular Parliament building. And because of their research and advice, we enjoyed a lovely night at the opera on our last night in town, a perfect ending to a great trip. This insider information was invaluable. I had done a good amount of research before arriving. But their insights helped us tie things together once we arrived.

Besides being very helpful, Agni and Tonci are a delight to visit with. She is a former Hungarian water polo Olympian. He is a former coach for the Croatian national team. Their friendliness and interest in their guests make you feel like you are staying with long-time friends. They put out a tasty spread each morning, including meats, cheeses, fruit, pastries, cereal, yogurt, and juices. We have been dreaming about their cappucinos (made in-house) and croissants ever since we left. Their attention to detail is what really makes them stand-out. We enjoyed listening to festive music while dining each morning. After we returned, we got in touch with them to see what the music was. Now we awake every morning to the same music, at home!

The room was very spacious and beautifully decorated, with a number of helpful furniture and storage pieces. We were impressed that they pushed two separate beds together for our use. But it was so comfortable and well-done that we did not notice that until we got down on the floor and inspected it. Now that I mention that I am not really sure why we were on the floor, inspecting it! But I do remember noticing that. A nice assortment of tea and coffee awaited us each morning in our room. And we had a nice view of the quiet, pedestrian-only street that the inn is located on. The location is great, a two-to-three minute walk to the subway and close to many of the things you will want to see and do in central Pest. And Buda is a quick walk, or tram-ride, away, just across the Danube River.
